Agent: Predators, Mike Fisher 'making progress' on new contract

The Nashville Predators and forward Mike Fisher are getting somewhere in contract negotiations.

"We're making progress," Fisher's agent, Todd Reynolds, told Adam Vingan of The Tennessean on Friday. "Everyone wants the same thing, and we're just trying to come to an agreement on what that ultimately looks like."

Fisher is an impending unrestricted free agent in the final year of a two-year, $8.4-million deal.

Reynolds told Vingan that the two sides have been engaged in talks since January and moved closer to an agreement within the last month.

"Everyone is putting their best efforts into trying to get something done," Reynolds said. "Talks are very amicable and constructive. Ultimately you agree on term and numbers, that's what it comes down to."

Last month, Predators general manager David Poile said he would love to have the 35-year-old center back.

Reynolds noted that his client doesn't have any firm demands when it comes to the length of the deal, saying: "As far as term goes, Mike will play for as long as they want him to play and he feels he can contribute and be an effective member of the Nashville Predators."

He predicted the eventual agreement won't be a long-term contract, but won't be a one-year deal, either.

"In the meantime, I think it's going to probably end up at two (years). I don't know that for certain, but I think that's probably the right number for everyone involved," Reynolds said.

Fisher scored 19 goals and added 20 assists in 59 games this past season.
