Carlo Ancelotti will not be returning to AC Milan this season.

The Italian bench boss, relieved of his duties at Real Madrid last month, confirmed Tuesday that Milan presented an offer to bring him back to the San Siro, but noted that he made the difficult decision to turn them down.

Milan echoed those sentiments on their official website:

"Carlo Ancelotti has informed Milan that he will not be able to become the coach of the Rossoneri first-team squad for next season," read a brief statement.

Ancelotti, who was at the helm of the club between 2001 and 2008, was being looked at as the ideal replacement for Filippo Inzaghi, who is widely expected to be let go this summer.
