Antonio Cromartie rips Richard Sherman: 'Go follow the No. 1 receiver'

New York Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie isn't convinced that Richard Sherman is the best player at their position in the NFL.

Cromartie was asked during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday who he considers the best cornerback in the NFL and nominated his teammate, Darrelle Revis. He then explained why he didn't give Sherman the nod.

"I'd tell him to go play in a defense where you don't have two All-Pro safeties," Cromartie said, via Dom Cosentino of NJ.com. "I would tell him, 'Go follow the No. 1 receiver.' Follow him around for a whole entire game, and let's see what you can do."

Cromartie's critique didn't stop there.

"Darrelle Revis has done that his whole career. I've done that, (the Arizona Cardinals') Patrick Peterson has done it, (the Cleveland Browns') Joe Haden's done it. He is the only defensive back that hasn't. So, there's no point in critiquing him. It's saying, if you want to label yourself as the No. 1 corner, or the best corner in the NFL, follow the best guy on every single team.

"And his whole thing will be, 'Well we don't have to do that. I've got my trust on the other corner on the other side. That's not the point. If you want to consider yourself the best, the best do what the best do – they follow around the best."

Cromartie's comments are a stark contrast from what he told Pro Football Talk in January 2014, when he picked Sherman as the NFL's best cornerback. But with him and Revis reunited in New York, it's easy to see where his loyalty lies.
