Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant said his surgically repaired right elbow "feels good" as training camp opened at Griffiths Stadium on Sunday.

Durant told the media that he won't know where his health stands until he gets into game action, which could be as early as June 13 when the Riders play an exhibition game in Fort McMurray against the Edmonton Eskimos.

"That's the hurdle I have to get over," the 32-year-old said. "You won't be able to get over that until you take a hit and I know that won't come until the preseason games. Right now I'm just focusing on my throws … Once you get in the heat of battle you can't really worry about it. You just have to turn it loose."

Durant was injured during Week 11 last season against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Riders started three different quarterbacks for their remaining eight games.

Saskatchewan signed CFL veteran Kevin Glenn during the offseason in order to be better insured for another potential injury to their starter.

Saskatchewan's regular season begins June 27th where Durant will face the opponent he was injured against as the Riders host the Bombers.
