Bogut tried to get Cavs' Dellavedova to the Warriors

Although the NBA now makes them opponents, Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut sought Matthew Dellavedova as a teammate a few years ago.

After Dellavedova wasn't selected in the 2013 NBA Draft, Bogut pushed the idea of signing his fellow Australian to general manager Bob Myers, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

"I was trying to get him (Dellavedova) here actually, but we didn't have a roster spot at the time," Bogut explained.

After attending the same school in Australia, Bogut knew all about Dellavedova's career at home - and at St. Mary's College in California, where he was a living record book. The shooting guard topped the school's existing records in scoring, assists, 3-pointers, and shots from beyond the arc, while scooping up conference awards.

Instead, the Warriors opted to take a chance on Serbian guard Nemanja Nedovic, whom they received from the Phoenix Suns. Nedovic appeared in only 24 games for the Warriors before he was shuffled to Golden State's D-League team. He's currently playing in Spain for Valencia BC of the Liga ACB.

"We had Nedovic and he was in the point guard spot for us," Bogut recalled.

"I was trying to tell Bob to get him (Dellavedova) in."

Dellavedova didn't do too badly on his own, earning a spot on the Cleveland Cavaliers' roster after a 2013 summer-league appearance. Now playing a key role in Cleveland's playoff success, the scrappy guard has gained some notoriety in the postseason after his involvement in a string of injuries to opposing players.

The two Aussies are set to face each other for the league title, with the series tipping off June 4.
