VIDEO: EA Sports' 'FIFA 16' to include women's national teams for 1st time
At long last, fans of the world's most popular sports video game franchise will have the ability to see their favourite female stars in action.
EA Sports announced Thursday that "FIFA 16" will feature women's national teams for the first time.
The revelation was accompanied by an equally exciting promotional video that showed off some of the motion-capture technology that was used, along with gameplay footage designed to highlight the impressive likenesses of the world's top female footballers.
"I honestly can't believe all of the science and technology behind the game itself, let alone getting us into the motion-capture suits and eventually into the game," veteran American striker and all-time leading scorer Abby Wambach said in a statement. "We're all excited to see ourselves in the game, but even more excited to see the reaction from all of the fans, including the fans of our team that maybe wouldn't be expecting something like this from EA Sports."
The game will offer 12 national teams - Germany, USA, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Spain, China, Italy, and Mexico - with the sport's most recognizable stars, like Wambach and many of her compatriots, featuring prominently.

That includes, of course, Alex Morgan, who had this to say of the announcement.
"It is such an honor for women’s players and our team to be included in 'FIFA 16,'" Morgan said. "I always wondered what it would be like to see our team in the game and it is very cool to know that it is now a reality."
"FIFA 16" is set to be released in September.
