Eintracht Frankfurt terminate manager Thomas Schaaf's contract

Thomas Schaaf will no longer be seen parading up and down the touchline at the Commerzbank-Arena.

After asking the board of Eintracht Frankfurt to terminate his contract, which was set to expire in June 2016, Schaff was released by the club on Tuesday.

"Thomas Schaaf achieved all the goals we had set before the season reaching spot No. 9 in the standings and 43 points," CEO Heribert Bruchhagen wrote in a statement.

"The collaboration was good which we repeatedly confirmed in his direction but also towards the media over the recent days. We regret that Thomas Schaaf will not proceed building the future of our club. Up until the end we tried to convince him otherwise and we have not been in talks with other managers. We wish Thomas Schaaf all the best for his future; and we will now look into finding a successor."

Schaaf, who is one of the longest-serving managers in the Bundesliga - having coached Werder Bremen from 1999 to 2013 - guided Frankfurt to one of their most impressive seasons in front of goal.

Don't be surprised if reports emerge connecting Schaaf with FC Schalke 04, as Roberto Di Matteo stepped down as the club's manager on Tuesday.
