Report: Browns' Tashaun Gipson seeking new contract, won't attend OTAs

Still yet to sign his restricted free agent tender, Tashaun Gipson is staying away from the Cleveland Browns' offseason workouts.

The standout safety will not participate in this week's OTAs as he remains in search of a new contract, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Now three years into his NFL career after joining the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Gipson's high level of play over the past two seasons certainly warrants consideration for a long-term contract.

After enjoying a breakout year with five interceptions in 2013, Gipson added another six takeaways in just 11 games this past season, earning his first Pro Bowl nod.

Though the contract dispute is unlikely to stretch into training camp this summer, the Browns would be wise to reward the 24-year-old with a new deal long before that even becomes a possibility.

With Gipson's coverage ability on the back end and veteran Donte Whitner's presence in run support, the Browns continue to field one of the NFL's most talented safety tandems and defensive backfields overall.
