Giants' Lincecum passes Carl Hubbell for 4th on franchise strikeout list

With his second strikeout of the game in a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, San Francisco Giants hurler Tim Lincecum took sole possession of fourth place on the franchise strikeout list.
The right-hander struck out third baseman Alex Guerrero to lead off the second inning, giving him 1,678 punch outs in his career.
Lincecum trails three Hall of Famers who have pitched more than double the innings he's tallied, though he's already on the cusp of equaling their records.
Rank | Pitcher | IP | Strikeouts |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Christie Mathewson | 4771 2/3 | 2499 |
2 | Juan Marichal | 3444.0 | 2281 |
3 | Amos Rusie | 3531 2/3 | 1835 |
4 | Tim Lincecum | 1610.0 | 1678 |
5 | Carl Hubbell | 3590 1/3 | 1677 |
It's also worth nothing that starters Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner sit eighth and 15th respectively, cementing the fact that the Giants have - without a doubt - assembled one of the greatest pitching staffs in club history.
