NFL approves changes to PAT rules, kick attempts moved to 15-yard line

Ron Chenoy / USA TODAY Sports

NFL teams officially voted Tuesday to make some long-awaited changes to the point-after-touchdown rules heading into the 2015 season, moving the line of scrimmage on kick attempts back to the 15-yard line.

The line of scrimmage for two-point conversions remains unchanged, but the defense can now return any forced turnover to the opponent's end zone for two points.

Approved by all but two of the league's 32 teams, the Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders, the proposal was one of three submitted for voting at this week's league meetings.

Another one of the proposals involved moving two-point conversions up to the 1-yard line. While such an adjustment would have influenced teams to attempt the two-point try more often, making the kicks more difficult could conceivably have the same effect, particularly in poor weather conditions.
