Dolphins sign Ryan Tannehill to reported 6-year, $96-million extension

The Miami Dolphins have signed quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a contract extension that will keep him with the team through 2020.

The deal will be worth $96 million over six years and includes $45 million guaranteed, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 26-year-old is coming off his best statistical season after throwing for 4,045 yards, 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The Dolphins already exercised the fifth-year option on Tannehill's rookie deal, so the extension will officially be for four years.

Tannehill, the eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft, is the first quarterback from that draft to be given a second contract - notably, ahead of Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson.

It will be a new look offense for Tannehill in 2015, with the additions of passing targets DeVante Parker, Jordan Cameron, Greg Jennings and Kenny Stills. The Dolphins appear to be in win-now mode, also breaking the bank in free agency to sign All-Pro defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.
