Wizards' Kevin Seraphin to use free agency to look for starting gig elsewhere

It appears as though Kevin Seraphin's time with the Washington Wizards will come to an end.

After the one-year offer he signed last summer worth $3.9 million runs out, the center will use his free agent status to look for a starting role elsewhere.

"I definitely want a chance to be a starter," Seraphin told CSNWashington's J. Michael. "I definitely want to be somewhere I have a chance to be a starter."

Seraphin came off the bench for all 79 games he played in during the regular-season for the Wizard, averaging 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.6 minutes.

The center stepped up for Washington in a big way during the team's Game 6 defeat at the hands of the Atlanta Hawks in the East semifinals. Seraphin racked up 13 points and eight rebounds in 28 minutes, coming in for Marcin Gortat, who was battling food poisoning.

"If I really want to learn - it's easy to say, 'Yeah, stay on the bench' - but in basketball or any sport it's best to be on the court," explained Seraphin.

Seraphin used John Wall's improvement over his career with the Wizards as an example of the playing time he has seen.

"The first John Wall I saw in my life, remember that was the game in Philly the first game, he wasn't the same John as right now. It's because he played all those years and everything. He learned. He became a better player. I remember the John who used to run, get charges all the time. Now he controls the game better. He became an All-Star because he had the talent, he had the opportunity and everything," continued Seraphin.

"That's basically what I want. I want to play. I really want to play and have a chance to prove what I can do."
