Nick Diaz's lawyer seeking settlement with NSAC
Nick Diaz's attorney is seeking a settlement in the fighter's drug case with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).
The NSAC granted Diaz another continuance, postponing his hearing in front of the commission for another month. According to Diaz's attorney, Lucas Middlebrook, he's been talking about a potential settlement with Nevada deputy attorney general Christophe Eccles.
Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites following his loss to Anderson Silva, and Middlebrook is questioning the State's handling of his client's samples, with two of his tests going to an SMRTL lab and one heading to Quest Diagnostics. Two of the tests came back negative.
"There's serious questions as to the testing methodology and why we had such skewed results from different labs," Middlebrook told MMAFighting.com's Marc Raimondi. "And also why two post-fight collections were done and sent to separate labs. That's another question."
One of the tests was administered before the bout, two were done following the bout.
"I wouldn't foreclose the possibility we could settle before next month's hearing, but as of now we're not close enough to get there," Middlebrook said of whether they were close to working out a deal.
