Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis will step down from his position on June 30 following a 17-year run at the school, he announced Monday.

De Carolis did not offer a reason for his decision, though he appears to still be interested in remaining in the college sports game, saying "I look forward to my upcoming adventures in the world of intercollegiate athletics."

He enjoyed plenty of success in Corvallis, most recently hiring Gary Andersen away from Wisconsin to coach the Beavers football program.

"I am very proud of the coaches I have hired and retained over the years and believe this is the best group of coaches in the history of Oregon State both from a coaching standpoint and also from a measure of character, as well," De Carolis said in a statement. "This collection of coaches will continue to compete for championships in the toughest conference in the country."

De Carolis has been battling Parkinson's disease, though he did not mention that in his statement.

Deputy athletic director Mark Massari will take over on an interim basis, and figures to be the favorite to take over the position full-time.
