Chargers' Eric Weddle on offseason workouts: 'I'm not coming anytime soon'

In search of a long-term extension as he enters the final year of his contract, San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle has yet to report to the team's offseason workout program.

As the three-time Pro Bowler explained in an appearance on San Diego sports radio "The Mighty" 1090 AM on Tuesday, that's unlikely to change until there's some movement toward a new deal.

"I'm not coming anytime soon until something on their side is gonna be said. They know where we're at, and they obviously know their stance, so we'll see what happens from there," Weddle said.

Weddle has spent his entire eight-year career with the Chargers thus far, starting 109 of 124 games and all of the team's 80 regular-season contests over the past five seasons.

Though there may be some concern about making a long-term commitment to a 30-year-old defensive back, the Chargers would be wise to lock up Weddle sooner than later, ensuring that he doesn't miss training camp this summer and keeping him off the free-agent market next spring.
