Drayton Florence / USA Today

Journeyman cornerback Drayton Florence is retiring from the NFL after remaining a free agent in 2014, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

"I'm graduating from the University of North Florida and announcing my retirement on the same day, May 1st," Florence told Anderson.

Florence played 11 seasons, including stints with the San Diego Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers.

He experienced his most success in San Diego, where he played his first five seasons after being selected in the second round of the 2003 draft. From 2004-2007, he accumulated 10 interceptions and was a member of one of the better defenses in the league.

Florence continued to rack up picks over his career, retiring with 20, including three returned for touchdowns.

The 34-year-old was released by the Detroit Lions prior to the 2014 season and last played in the regular season with the Carolina Panthers in 2013.
