Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben will miss remainder of season with torn calf muscle

Bayern Munich has, unfortunately, seen the last of Arjen Robben running riot down the right wing this season.

The club announced Wednesday that the Dutchman, 31, tore a calf muscle in his left leg during Tuesday's German Cup loss to Borussia Dortmund, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Robben, the undisputed star of a team loaded with the world's deepest, most talented squad, lasted less than 20 minutes in the aforementioned contest, coming on as a substitute in the second half before limping right back off the pitch shortly after.

His appearance in Tuesday's semifinal was his first after missing roughly a month with an abdominal injury. How quickly situations change.

Of course, with the Bundesliga title wrapped up and their German Cup adventure now over, the significance of Robben's injury shifts to the Champions League, where Bayern are set to meet Barcelona in the semifinals - with the opening leg taking place next week.

If Bayern are to overcome the Spanish juggernaut, they will have to do it without one of the world's most frightening attacking players. In a season marred by injuries, this will go down as the biggest blow. Whether it turns out to be fatal, in terms of their Champions League aspirations, remains to be seen.
