Urban Meyer says stats will decide Ohio State QB battle, not a 'gut feeling'

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer certainly isn't short on choices for who will serve as the Buckeyes' starting quarterback this coming season.

Strong cases can be made for each of Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones.

Meyer knows he has work to do once training camp rolls around, and he isn't leaving his decision to chance.

"This can't be, 'Well, I'm going with him because it's my gut feeling,'" Meyer said, according to Austin Ward of ESPN. "No gut feelings; it's got to be statistical analysis and data backing up who is going to play quarterback.

"I'll come up with some kind of system throughout training camp that we're going to chart everything that everyone does. We've kind of done that before, but not to the degree that we're going to do it this year - because you have to be right on now."

It'll be difficult for Meyer to get the decision wrong given the quality of the options at his disposal.

"There are going to be a lot of people interested," Meyer said. "I know you guys (in the media), but the families and the players, much more. I want to be able to look those people in the eye and say, 'This is where we're at' and it not be a shocker when it happens."
