Alabama's Nick Saban against satellite camps: 'How ridiculous is that?'
SEC commissioner Mike Slive voiced his displeasure with satellite camps earlier this week, and Alabama head coach Nick Saban has since joined him.
Saban told reporters he believes it's an issue that needs to be addressed, since the SEC doesn't allow its members to participate.
"If we're all going to travel all over the country to have satellite camps, you know, how ridiculous is that?" Saban said. "I mean, we're not allowed to go to All-Star games, but now we're going to have satellite camps all over the country. So it doesn't really make sense."
According to NCAA bylaws, football programs must host camps on their campus, inside their state, or within a 50-mile radius of campus should it fall out of state. However, should coaches serve as a "guest coach" and host another school's camps, it allows them to bypass the 50-mile radius
The ACC and SEC do not permit this practice, but the Big 12, Big Ten and Pac-12 do.
