Canadiens' Weise sticks it to Senators' playoff hopes with OT winner

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

As expected, the Ottawa Senators faithful were all over Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban, booing him every time he touched the puck.

Although the Senators came roaring out of the gates, it wasn't enough as Dale Weise tied and won the game for the Canadiens, giving them a 2-1 victory and a commanding 3-0 series lead.

Star Performer: For most of the game it looked as if Craig Anderson or Erik Karlsson would get the nod in this one, but Dale Weise came through in the clutch and became the game hero for the Canadiens.

Turning Point: Weise, who was impressive in last season's playoffs, is trying to emulate his past performances and sparked the Canadiens' comeback in the third period, finally beating a solid Anderson with the following dandy.

Goalie comparison: Carey Price was his usual, steady self, keeping his team in the game, while Anderson was pelted with shots, eventually letting in just one more than his opponent.

Goalie Shots GA Saves SV%
Price 34 1 33 .971
Anderson 49 2 47 .959

Top Highlight: Karlsson was playing like a man possessed, showing a different physical side of his game. He absolutely laid out Nathan Beaulieu in the second period.

Stat of the night: In the first period, the Senators sprung out of the gates throwing their weight around and were mirrored by the similarly aggressive Canadiens, leading to 43 first period hits. The total ranks fifth most for hits in the first period of an NHL playoff game.
