Report: Philip Rivers may refuse to play in L.A. should Chargers relocate

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers face an uncertain future both on and off the field.

Off the field, rumors continue to swirl that the franchise could soon relocate up the I-5 to Los Angeles.

On the field, it appears increasingly likely star quarterback Philip Rivers doesn't want to go along for the trip should the team move.

U-T San Diego's Kevin Acee strongly hints that Rivers has communicated to the Chargers his unwillingness to play in Los Angeles.

Can we say for sure that Rivers won’t play in L.A.? Not any more than we can say it won’t snow in Carson or Inglewood next Christmas.

So, yeah, take from that what you will.

Acee goes on to suggest the Chargers take a proactive stance and trade Rivers, who will be a free agent in 2016, to the Tennessee Titans for the second overall pick in the draft.

With a top pick, the Chargers would presumably select Marcus Mariota as the new face of the franchise.
