Nothing in life is said to be certain except death and taxes - and the Detroit Red Wings qualifying for the NHL playoffs.
Detroit didn't even need to win Thursday to extend its incredible playoff streak to 24 seasons. The Red Wings lost 4-3 in overtime to the Montreal Canadiens but secured a postseason berth when the Boston Bruins lost to the Florida Panthers.
The Red Wings have not missed the playoffs since the 1989-90 season.
