Trail Blazers clinch 1st division title in 16 years

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Trail Blazers failed to clinch the Northwest Division on Wednesday night when they lost to the Los Angeles Clippers, but the Memphis Grizzlies did the job for them Friday.

Memphis's win over the Oklahoma City Thunder gave the Blazers their first Northwest Division title - and the franchise's first division title of any kind since 1999. In that lockout-shortened season, the Blazers won the Pacific Division.

To find a non-lockout season when Portland last topped their division, you'd have to go back to 1991-92, when Clyde Drexler and company led the Blazers to the NBA Finals.
