Warriors clinch homecourt, Kerr sets wins record for 1st-year head coach

The Golden State Warriors clinched homecourt advantage throughout the duration of the NBA playoffs with a 123-110 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday. And what an advantage that will be.

Golden State is a near-perfect 35-2 when playing in front of its rabid fans at Oracle Arena. It didn't need any extra help from the home crowd Saturday, blowing the Mavericks out at the American Airlines Center for its NBA-best 28th road win of the season.

The win extended the Warriors' winning streak to 12 games and helped Steve Kerr make history in the process.

Kerr set a record for most victories ever by a first-year head coach by winning his 63rd game of the season, breaking a tie with Tom Thibodeau (2010-11) and Paul Westphal (1992-93).

"I couldn't be happier to have this job and to coach these guys and hang out with them every day," Kerr told reporters. "It's an amazing group."

Golden State has won a franchise-best 63 games and counting. If it closes out the season with six straight wins, the team will tie the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers and 1996-97 Chicago Bulls for the second-most wins ever by a team in a single season. The 1995-96 Bulls hold the all-time mark with 72 victories.

Seven Warriors scored in double figures Saturday, led by All-Star Klay Thompson's game-high 21 points.
