VIDEO: Brazilian player shown red card for flipping off his own fans

It's not often a player is sent off for abuse directed toward his own fans, but one Brazilian player was obviously fed up with the treatment he received in a Campeonato Gaucho match Wednesday.

Internacional left-back Fabricio lost the plot against Ypiranga in Porto Alegre as jeers from the stands sent him over the edge.

While it's not exactly clear what caused the unrest among supporters, Fabricio obviously didn't feel it was warranted and offered his own response when he gestured toward the crowd with two middle fingers.

He virtually stopped paying attention to the match and continued to flip off the crowd, creating a huge response from irate Internacional fans.

The match official took offense to the gesture as well, and subsequently pulled out his red card to send Fabricio off the pitch.

Internacional suspended Fabricio Thursday.

"It's an unfortunate attitude. Fabricio was hot-headed," Internacional president Vitorio Piffero told Estadao. "We will not take action now, only after Easter. He is suspended until then."
