Lardarius Webb: 'My goal is to retire a Raven'

Lardarius Webb finished restructuring his contract earlier in March and recently reiterated his desire to stay with the Baltimore Ravens for the remainder of his career.

Webb spent the first six seasons of his career with the Ravens after being selected in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

The 29-year-old cornerback reworked his contract so his salary-cap hit would be $9.25 million as opposed to $12 million.

After winning a Super Bowl with the club and starring as one of the new leaders of the Ravens' defense upon Ray Lewis's retirement, Webb made it clear he intends to remain in Baltimore for the foreseeable future.

"My goal is to retire a Raven and, while it wasn't an easy decision, I wanted to put the team first," Webb said to The Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson. "I wanted to prove myself this year that the Ravens sticking with me was the right decision. The Ravens reached out to my agent, Marc Lillibridge, a few weeks before the scouting combine and they were talking and working hard together to get something done. I'm glad it's done."

Baltimore lost a number of key players in free agency, with Torrey Smith, Pernell McPhee and Owen Daniels switching clubs. The Ravens also opted to trade longtime stalwart defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to the Detroit Lions on the opening day of free agency.

"Doing the restructure, I'm glad it helps the team financially to make more moves to make the team better," Webb said. "It's not easy losing great players like Torrey Smith, Haloti Ngata and Pernell McPhee, but this happens every year. I trust Ozzie Newsome and the rest of the organization to do their jobs and put the pieces in place to make us a better team."

Webb recorded 46 tackles and an interception last season in 13 games. Entering his seventh season, he's the de facto leader of the Ravens' secondary and will be counted on to help lead the team to another playoff appearance.
