Wall's 34 not enough as Beal-less Wizards lose heartbreaker to Pacers
The Washington Wizards' up-and-down season is in the midst of another serious downswing.
They lost their fourth consecutive game, 103-101, Wednesday against the desperate Indiana Pacers, who were riding a six-game losing streak of their own and needed the win to keep pace in the race for the East's eighth playoff seed.
Indiana trailed for nearly the entire fourth quarter, but stole the lead late. John Wall hit a massive game-tying three with 11 seconds to play, but the Wizards couldn't stop George Hill from turning the corner on the next possession, and he waltzed in for the game-winning layup.
Catching a bad break early, the Wizards lost shooting guard Bradley Beal to a sprained right ankle in the first quarter. But Wall stepped up in a big way, pouring in a season-high 34 points on 11-of-21 shooting.
Wall's point guard counterpart, George Hill, was more than up to the task, dropping 29 points of his own, and dishing out a game-high nine assists for good measure.
