Report: Jameis Winston doesn't plan on attending draft

When Roger Goodell announces the first overall pick in the NFL draft on April 30, he may not have a player's hand to shake.

Top quarterback prospect Jameis Winston doesn't plan on attending the draft, according to Peter King of The MMQB.

Instead, Winston plans on remaining at home with his family and friends.

It's rare but not unprecedented for top prospects to stay away from the glitz and glamour of the draft - Cleveland Browns left tackle Joe Thomas was famously fishing when he was selected third overall in 2007 - but it's been a long time since the first player chosen didn't attend in person.

Of course, there's no guarantee Winston will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' choice with the top pick. Even if they are leaning toward selecting him, the Florida State product's decision to stay home and avoid the spotlight should have no impact on the team's decision.
