Kentucky does not cut down nets after SEC title win

Christopher Hanewinckel / USA TODAY Sports

Championship victories are usually followed by the team cutting down the nets in celebration.

After Kentucky claimed the SEC championship by defeating Arkansas 73-63 and retained its perfect record, the Wildcats left the basketball nets unscathed.

The team's managers were later sent out with scissors to get the nets.

While there was some speculation that Kentucky was attempting to make a statement by leaving the nets up, Wildcats forward Marcus Lee had a much more simple explanation: The team was too busy celebrating with each other and forgot to cut them down.

Seems like a great reason.

There may be more to it than simply forgetfulness, though.

Willie Cauley-Stein said, "Those aren't the nets we're looking to cut down. We're looking for something bigger."
