Reseeding the Sweet Sixteen field

The opening weekend of the NCAA tournament is in the books, and three of the top-eight seeds have fallen by the wayside.

With 16 teams remaining, here's where the teams would fall if they were to be reseeded in advance of the Sweet Sixteen, factoring in the quality of the team and the difficulty of its path to the title.

1. Kentucky (No. 1 in the Midwest): Cincinnati put out a blueprint on how to give the Wildcats trouble, and that's by forcing them to be a jump-shooting team. They're still the runaway favorite.

2. Wisconsin (No. 1 in the West): Give Bo Ryan enough time and he figures out a way to put opponents away. Arizona will be tough if it gets to that.

3. Duke (No. 1 in the South): When the Blue Devils' offense gets on a roll like it did the first weekend, few teams can keep up.

4. Arizona (No. 2 in the West): The Wildcats have won their last 13 games by an average margin of 21.5 points. Their defense isn't getting the press it deserves.

5. Michigan State (No. 7 in the East): The East busted wide open on the weekend, and few know their way around the month of March like Tom Izzo.

6. Louisville (No. 4 in the East): NC State's bringing its A-game, but Rick Pitino is 12-1 in the Sweet Sixteen.

7. Gonzaga (No. 2 in the South): The Bulldogs have skated by on a couple subpar performances. That's going to catch up with them.

8. Utah (No. 5 in the South): The Utes' defense will need to be on point against Duke. They have the weapons to give the Dukies trouble.

9. Wichita State (No. 7 in the Midwest): The Shockers start five upperclassmen. Each recorded double digits in scoring on Sunday. Kentucky's in its way, though.

10. Oklahoma (No. 3 in the East): Lon Kruger brings a fourth team to the Sweet Sixteen. He'll have to match wits with Tom Izzo to advance.

11. Notre Dame (No. 3 in the Midwest): The Irish won their first two tournament games by a combined seven points, needing overtime in one.

12. North Carolina (No. 4 in the West): Two tight games for the Tar Heels to start. Next two could be against Wisconsin and Arizona.

13. UCLA (No. 11 in the South): The Bruins are getting hot at the right time. Slowing Gonzaga's litany of offensive weapons will be a tall order.

14. West Virginia (No. 5 in the Midwest): Bob Huggins is 8-2 against John Calipari, but Cal won the last meeting in the 2011 NCAA tournament.

15. NC State (No. 8 in the East): The Wolfpack were a tough matchup for Villanova. Louisville won't have the same problems on the boards.

16. Xavier (No. 6 in the West): The Musketeers' path has been paved in gold thus far. Next up: Arizona.
