Theo Zwanziger, outgoing member of the FIFA Executive Committee and former president of the German Football Association (DFB), believes Qatar should be stripped of hosting the 2022 World Cup.

In conversation with Bayern 2 radio station, Zwanziger - who will leave FIFA in May - spoke openly about the controversial awarding of the tournament to Qatar, stating that they should lose their hosting duties if a report can prove the governing body's ethics rules were breached.

"The best solution would be not to play in Qatar and to rectify this wrong awarding," Zwanziger said, according to the Guardian. "But that can only happen if the report provides sufficient clues that the awarding broke FIFA ethics rules."

Former American lawyer Michael Garcia led the investigation into alleged corruption that clouded the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids, but he resigned in protest in December after claiming the 42-page summary of his 430-page report misrepresented his findings and cleared Qatar of any wrongdoing. Garcia also cited a lack of leadership within FIFA.

Zwanziger added: "Qatar was not suitable to host such a World Cup for a number of reasons."
