Cagliari fires manager Gianfranco Zola after less than 3 months in charge

Cagliari will need a new manager to help navigate them out of the relegation zone.

The club announced Monday that Gianfranco Zola and his staff have been relieved of their duties, ending a stint on the sidelines that lasted less than three months.

Zola was in charge for only 10 matches, taking over for Zdenek Zeman on Dec. 23. He guided the club to just two wins in that time, and leaves with the side sitting four points adrift of safety after losing five of their last six matches.

"Our gratitude goes to him and his assistants for the dedicated, professional and passionate work carried out over these months with warm wishes of good luck for the continuation of his career," the club said in their statement.
