Syracuse's Jim Boeheim: 'I came here in 1962. I'm not going anywhere'

In his first public comments since NCAA penalties were assessed against the Syracuse men's basketball program, Orange head coach Jim Boeheim indicated he intends to stick with the program, saying "I'm not going anywhere."

Boeheim was speaking to an audience of 700 at the Hardwood Club dinner, the first time he's spoken publicly since Friday's NCAA report was released.

Boeheim was stripped of 108 wins and will be forced to sit out the Orange's first nine ACC games next season, among the penalties to come from the report. The NCAA also hit Syracuse with scholarship reductions to the tune of 12 over four years.

"There's a lot of things to be said. It's difficult right now," Boeheim said. "I think there's a hell of a battle ahead of us.

"I came here in 1962. I'm not going anywhere."

Syracuse finished 18-13 overall and 9-9 in the ACC this past season after losing its final game of the regular season at NC State on Saturday. After the game, Boeheim did not speak with the media, instead allowing assistant coach Mike Hopkins to address reporters.
