Chandler on West's criticism: 'Probably true' that Nuggets have no grown-ups

The problems with the Denver Nuggets did not begin and end with head coach Brian Shaw, who was fired on Tuesday in the latest attempt to steady an incredibly rocky ship.

As details continue to emerge about the culture in Denver - the timeline of issues under Shaw is remarkable - it seems as if Shaw was a necessary move but not by any means a cure-all. When the team searches for a new bench boss this summer, they may need to consider continuing the roster overhaul they began in January.

Primarily, the Nuggets appear to need an infusion of leadership, something the players themselves recognize. In response to criticism from David West that the Nuggets don't have adults - he said it in less kind terms - Nuggets veteran Wilson Chandler more or less agreed.

"I saw it," Chandler said Wednesday. "I mean, it's probably true, but he's entitled to his own opinion. I'm not saying we're immature. We just need to be professionals all the time."

This is a roster, after all, that had such poor late-night habits that Shaw cancelled morning shootarounds on game days, and when they voted to reinstate shootarounds, six players voted against it. Their effort has been repeatedly questioned, their play heavily criticized and 11 of the players have contracts for next season.

Whoever takes over the reigns is going to need to be well-versed in handling a locker room, something Shaw may have lacked the experience for.
