Report: NCAA investigating if family of Kansas's Cliff Alexander received benefits
Kansas forward Cliff Alexander has been sidelined by the university because of an NCAA inquiry into the possibility that one or more of his family members received impermissible benefits from an NBA agent, according to Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports.
The freshman has not yet been interviewed by the NCAA, Forde reports, and the Alexander family has retained legal counsel.
Alexander will not be reinstated until after an interview with the NCAA occurs and it's determined whether benefits received by his family are impermissible. If it's ruled that a violation occurred, Alexander's eligibility for the remainder of the season figures to be in doubt.
The Chicago native has sat out the past two games, wins over Texas and West Virginia. Prior to that, Alexander's playing time dipped significantly, as he played less than 20 minutes in seven of nine games. However, an injury to fellow forward Perry Ellis would likely mean more playing time for Alexander.
On the season, Alexander is averaging 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds.
