Report: Eagles to release Trent Cole
Tommy Gilligan / USA Today
The Philadelphia Eagles will release defensive end/outside linebacker Trent Cole after the two parties couldn't reach an agreement on a new contract, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan.
Cole recorded 52 tackles, three forced fumbles and 6.5 sacks last season. He had three consecutive 10-plus sack seasons from 2009-11 and reached 12.5 sacks in 2007.
Philadelphia selected the 32-year-old in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft, and he spent the entirety of his 10-year career with the franchise, totaling 85.5 sacks.
Cole will be a highly sought after free agent, as he can play outside linebacker in a 3-4 or defensive end in a 4-3.
The veteran did not appear to be happy about his anticipated release.
