Redskins' Jean Francois: People are going to be 'shocked' by Joe Barry's defense

Ricky Jean Francois joined the Washington Redskins just five days ago, but he already has a good feel for what the defense will look like next season.

"I believe the defense is going to be a lot different," the defensive tackle told ESPN 980 on Tuesday, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington reports. "A lot different. A lot of people are going to be shocked to see what kind of defense we come in this year with."

Jean Francois said defensive coordinator Joe Barry filled him in on his plans during a recent visit to Redskins Park.

"He's going to be more of a smart guy," Jean Francois said. "He's not going to be trying to be the more aggressive dude. Only aggressive when he needs to. But at the same time, his one biggest thing is he wants his front four to get pressure. That was the biggest thing he emphasized. If he's got DBs in the backend covering, he wants to be able to send that front four and drop seven. That's every defensive coordinator's dream to do. I want that dream to come true for him."

Jean Francois added that while he'll be able to move around the line, he expects to play end.

"I really want to get it mastered down with (Jason Hatcher so) that we can play both sides and we don't have (to) switch sides," Jean Francois said. "We can be good at both. It makes it a hell (of) a lot easier for D-coordinator to call plays when (offenses) can't pick up on keys. So I'm trying to learn how to play every (position) across the line, but more likely I'll (play) five technique."

Jean Francois' deal with the Redskins reunites him with general manager Scot McCloughan, who drafted him to the San Francisco 49ers in 2009.

"He was the guy that stuck his neck out for me a few years back when I was getting drafted," Jean Francois said. "He took a chance on me and he landed big."
