Report: Jets preparing to make a push for Darrelle Revis

The New York Jets are preparing to make a big push to sign cornerback Darrelle Revis should he become available, Manish Mehta of The New York Daily News reports.

Revis is under contract with the New England Patriots, but the team isn't expected to exercise an option bonus that would pay him $20 million in 2015. Absent a renegotiated deal with the Patriots, Revis is likely to hit free agency.

If he does, the Jets may be ready to pounce.

Mehta reports Jets owner Woody Johnson has engaged in serious internal discussions about what the team can do to bring Revis back to the team.

The Jets drafted Revis with the 14th overall pick in 2007. He remained with the team until 2013, earning first-team All-Pro honors three times.

New Jets head coach Todd Bowles doesn't have a history with Revis, but it's not hard to see how Revis could greatly improve Bowles' defense. The former Arizona Cardinals coordinator calls blitzes more than any coach in the NFL. A press-man cover cornerback like Revis is the ideal player to have in such a scheme.
