Jameis Winston files trademark for 'Famous Jameis'

Jameis Winston has filed for a trademark on his nickname, "Famous Jameis."

Winston, who won the Heisman Trophy and led Florida State to a national championship two seasons ago, will likely be the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

The 21-year-old posted a 27-1 record at Florida State, losing his final game at the Rose Bowl to Oregon.

"We have begun taking steps to protect our client and his intellectual property rights," Russ Spielman, a partner with The Legacy Agency, said to ESPN's Darren Rovell. The Legacy Agency represents Winston. "Right now his sole focus is on football. We hope to utilize this way down the line."

During the NFL Scouting Combine, Winston reportedly passed a number of team interviews with flying colors, alleviating concerns about his off-field maturity. Some compared Winston's football intelligence to Peyton Manning's, and he aced a whiteboard test with NFL Network's Steve Mariucci

It's a smart move by the college star to attempt to collect royalties as soon as possible, especially when he could be on the cusp of NFL stardom as early as next fall.
