Michael Sam confirmed Tuesday he'll be appearing on the upcoming season of "Dancing With The Stars," but made it clear he isn't giving up on his dream of playing in the NFL.

"Football remains my unquestioned number 1 priority, however, while I continue to train and stay ready, I am ecstatic to participate in a fun, athletic competition like so many players before me have done," Sam tweeted.

Sam has applied to participate in the NFL's first veteran combine in March. There was some question of whether he would be able to do both, but Sam said filming for the program is flexible and will allow him to take part in the combine or any other workouts with teams.

Sam became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL when the St. Louis Rams selected him in the seventh round of last year's draft, but he was released during final roster cuts. He also had a brief stint on the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad.

Season 20 of "Dancing With The Stars" premieres March 16 on ABC.
