VIDEO: Amar'e Stoudemire dunks twice in 1st quarter as a Maverick
Dallas Mavericks fans may have been warned not to expect the old Amar'e Stoudemire when the team signed him following a buyout from the New York Knicks last week.
Those warnings were apparently premature.
Stoudemire made his Mavericks debut against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday and wasted little time ingratiating himself to his new home crowd. Stoudemire checked into the game with 5:26 to play in the first quarter and after a rough two minutes - he missed two shots and committed a turnover - Stoudemire corralled an offensive rebound for a putback.
Then he really went to work.
On back-to-back possessions, Stoudemire threw the hammer down on the Hornets, first crowning Jason Maxiell and then finishing an alley-oop when the Hornets forgot about him down low.
Stoudemire may not be the high-flier he once was with the Phoenix Suns and in his early Knicks days, but he remains a very capable offensive piece, particularly in the pick-and-roll. He's a really nice addition for the playoff-bound Mavericks, providing an extra threat down low and some much-needed frontcourt depth.
