Randy Gregory says weight loss caused by stomach virus

Randy Gregory, arguably the top edge rusher in this year's draft class, raised some concerns this week at the NFL Scouting Combine when he weighed in at a relatively slender 235 pounds.

As the Nebraska product explained, the somewhat disappointing size was a result of an illness he dealt with in recent weeks.

"Initially, yesterday, I was kind of pissed off about it," Gregory said, according to Bryan Fischer of NFL.com.

"I was about 240, 243 a week and a half ago. Then I got sick, had to go to the hospital. I had to get X-rays of my stomach because I had a stomach virus. I was throwing up everywhere. I was trying to build my weight back up, but it was really the worst time it could have happened."

Gregory was able to showcase some impressive movement skills in on-field drills Sunday and if he's able to do so again at his pro day after he adds some of the weight he lost, it should alleviate any questions about his ability to hold up at the NFL level.

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers likely opting for a quarterback at No. 1 overall, Gregory will be in play for nearly every team in the top 10 from the second pick on.
