Shane Ray says he wanted to run 40-yard dash but wasn't allowed

Missouri product Shane Ray watched the other premier edge rushers in his draft class all turn in very strong times in the 40-yard dash from the sideline, helpless to go out and compete.

According to Ray, he wanted to run the 40 but was not cleared by doctors at the combine due to a hyperextended toe.

"It wasn't by choice," Ray said in an interview on NFL Network after watching Vic Beasley, Dante Fowler Jr. and Randy Gregory all boost their draft stock with blazing fast 40 times.

Ray revealed he has been running for 12 days but still couldn't convince the conservative combine doctors to let him run in Indianapolis.

Ray is expected to run the 40 at Missouri's pro day.
