Combine Stock Watch: Marpet, Clemmings impress; Gregory's weight a concern

Trevor Ruszkowski / USA TODAY Sports

At the end of each day at the NFL Scouting Combine, theScore runs down the players who improved their draft stock and those who may have hurt their standing in the eyes of NFL scouts.

Stock Up

Ali Marpet, C, Hobart & William Smith

The only Division III prospect at the combine, Marpet showed scouts why he was invited after posting a 4.98 in the 40-yard dash, including a great 10-yard split.

After a strong showing at the Senior Bowl, Marpet crushed the combine, winning the 40-yard dash and placing top-five in the bench press, 20-yard shuttle and 3-cone drill, and possibly positioning himself as a second day prospect.

MyCole Pruitt, TE, Southern Illinois

If a mid- to late-round tight end is looking to move way up the draft boards, winning the 40-yard dash and vertical leap is a good place to start. Pruitt just did that, while also finishing top-five in the broad jump and 20-yard shuttle.

As a result, the athletic pass catcher will get more looks and could work his way up to a second-day pick if the right team falls in love.

T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh

Clemmings cemented his position as one of the top tackles in the draft with a solid day. While some tackles fell off a bit, Clemmings proved his potential will be worth a first round pick by performing well in all drills.

The physical traits are undeniable, and with this performance, Clemmings will be hard to pass up for many teams in need of line help.

Stock Down

Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa

As unfair as it seems, an injury can bump you down the draft board this. Unable to participate in drills after injuring his hamstring, Scherff was unable to completely dismiss his lackluster bench press of 23 reps from Thursday.

He did, however, run a respectable 40-yard dash of 5.05 before shutting it down.

Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska

The consensus top-rated pass rushing end, Gregory weighed in far lighter than expected Friday. At 235 pounds, his weight is closer to a wide receiver than defensive end. This may limit his prospects, as a 4-3 team needing a player who can line up with their hand in the dirt may have to pass on the speedy pass-rusher.

Josue Matias, G, Florida St.

Matias struggled in every single drill, finishing last or close-to-last in all but the bench press - in which he didn't participate. Matias has been a consensus pick as one of the top guards heading into the combine but he'll have a lot to prove after this performance.

His tape from Florida State should still allow him to get drafted, but where is now the question.
