Randy Gregory weighs in at a surprisingly light 235 pounds

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

Pass-rushing prospect Randy Gregory measured in at six foot four and 235 pounds at the NFL combine Friday, an atypically light weight for an edge defender.

Gregory's weight may lock him in to the position of 3-4 outside linebacker. At 235 pounds, it's very hard to imagine him succeeding as a 4-3 defensive end.

Frankly, it's not easy to imagine Gregory succeeding as a 3-4 outside linebacker, either, unless he adds weight as a pro - something Dane Brugler of CBS Sports says some teams are concerned he won't be able to do

Draft analyst Tony Pauline reports Gregory actually began training for the combine at 218 pounds - something Bleacher Report's Matt Miller later confirmed.

Gregory is widely considered by the draft community to be a first-round talent and some mock drafts have him going off the board in the first five picks. It remains to be seen how his weigh-in results will affect his draft stock.

Cleveland Browns pass-rusher Barkevious Mingo jumps out as an obvious comparison for Gregory. Mingo measures in at 6-4, 240 pounds and has struggled to live up to his draft status. He was selected sixth overall in 2013.
