Report: Rangers, Zuccarello not close on contract extension

Kelvin Kuo / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Rangers and pending unrestricted free agent Mats Zuccarello are considerably far apart on terms for a new contract, reports Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

Brooks suggests the organization has tabled a four-year contract offer between $4- and $4.25-million per season, while Zuccarello's camp covets a longer term and an annual salary in excess of $5 million.

If it were up to either side, Zuccarello would remain a Blueshirt, but his loyalty will be tested as July 1 inches closer and teams with more cap space have an opportunity to court the gritty winger.
