Jameis Winston weighs in at 231 pounds, alleviates concerns

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The "Fat Jameis Winston" narrative died a quick death Thursday with the Florida State passer's official weigh-in at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Though a photo that made the rounds recently appeared to show Winston with a large belly and sparked rumors of weight issues (and a denial from Winston's camp), the 2013 Heisman Trophy winner tipped the scales at 231 pounds Thursday, a number that's in line with his expected playing weight as a pro.

Winston did indeed need to shed some pounds ahead of the combine, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Winton reportedly began his training at 248 pounds.

A recent visit with former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh could be the catalyst that led Winston to shed the final few pounds. According to Schefter, Harbaugh told Winston to "be serious about being serious" and it inspired Winston to make his diet a priority.
