Vikings GM: 'We expect Adrian Peterson to be part of our football team'

As Adrian Peterson's return to the NFL nears, high-ranking officials within the Minnesota Vikings organization continue to voice their support.

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman was the latest to speak in favor of the running back rejoining the team Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

"We expect Adrian Peterson to be part of our football team," Spielman said, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

"I think our whole organization is on that same page (about wanting Peterson back). What team wouldn't want an Adrian Peterson talent? He's (a) unique player that you don't see come around too often and Adrian's been a key part of our organization. He's made a mistake. He's doing everything and he's got to follow through and rectify and do the things the NFL is requiring him to do."

While the $12.75 million Peterson is set to make in 2015 could complicate matters, the relatively consistent message from the Vikings seems to indicate they're prepared to welcome him back when he's reinstated by the NFL.

Should negotiations break down and the two sides eventually decide to part ways, however, Peterson would also have plenty of suitors around the league.

The 30-year-old has rushed for 10,190 yards and 86 touchdowns over the course of his eight-year career and has been named a first-team All-Pro three times.
