Report: 5 teams could offer Hector Olivera more than $70 million
Hector Olivera hasn't been cleared by the commissioner's office to sign with an MLB club, but several teams are already prepared to spend big to acquire the 29-year-old Cuban.
Olivera, who is not subject to international bonus pool restrictions, is reportedly seeking a deal between five and six years while five teams have already demonstrated a willingness to offer him upwards of $70 million, according to Peter Gammons.
An earlier report from Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicated that the Dodgers have strong interest in Olivera, and Cuban baseball expert Peter Bjarkman said he believes the infielder will end up in Los Angeles.
Olivera has held numerous open showcases and private workouts since arriving in the Dominican Republic months ago and is widely considered to be ready for major-league competition.
Olivera spent most of his final season in Cuba as a designated hitter but has played the majority of his career at second base, though some MLB teams may view third base as a better fit.
