Panthers promote secondary coach Steve Wilks to assistant head coach

The Carolina Panthers announced Monday that secondary/passing defense coordinator Steve Wilks has been promoted to assistant head coach.

Wilks joined the Panthers in 2012 after overseeing the San Diego Chargers' secondary the previous three seasons. Carolina has ranked in the top 10 in total defense in each of the past three seasons.

Wilks and Panthers head coach Ron Rivera worked together previously in San Diego and Chicago.
